We are currently hiring a part-time Youth Coordinator at 20 hours per week.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Youth Coordinator is responsible for enhancing and complementing the youth leadership, media advocacy, and awareness work being done at Project Extra Mile to prevent and reduce alcohol-related harms in the Omaha area and across the state. The Youth Coordinator will help plan and implement programs and develop relationships with both young (8-12th graders) and adult leaders to help the organization achieve its mission.
Salary:
$20-$22/ hour based on experience
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees Youth Leadership Network monthly meetings and organize activities
- Contacts and builds relationships with school guidance counselors, youth ministers, and other community leaders to garner support and members for youth groups activities.
- Plans and coordinates the annual Youth Leadership Retreat and Youth Leadership Day.
- Tracks alcohol-related media articles and high-profile cases involving excessive alcohol consumption and distributes to staff.
- Acts as a technical resource when needed for any group seeking current and accurate information regarding alcohol and its effects on youth.
- Supports program implementation as needed in different capacities (office support, organizing of resources, documentation, etc.)
- Organizes group activities that may involve youth and adults alike in several different formats (dinners, rallies, meetings, projects, etc.).
- Attends community meetings and events that help build local relationships that advance the key initiatives of Project Extra Mile.
- Assists in writing letters, letters to the editor, news releases/alerts, newsletter articles and other communications as needed.
- Other duties as needed or assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience working with high school students
- Knowledge of strategic and event planning.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Possess a working knowledge of community organizing and public policy
- Ability to build relationships
- Must be energetic and outgoing with a positive, optimistic attitude
- Be innovative with a vision for change in the community
- Must be a strategic thinker and pay close attention to detail
- Enjoy working with people, particularly middle and high school students
- Organizational, writing, and public speaking skills are essential
- Ability to work independently with little supervision while handling multiple tasks and schedules
